In my courses, I believe that working consistently hard is a key to success in my classes. Things that you absolutely have to pay attention to:
1. Assignment Submission Date: Asynchronous courses rely on a tight schedule. Activities are one after another. A complete assignment submitted in a timely manner is very important. Don’t wait till the last day to submit your assignment. So many days between each of your assignments, why wait till the last day? I encourage you to move ahead.
2. Consistent Study Time: You need to schedule your study time at least once or twice a week. My LMS will lock your account, if you idle a long time for security reasons. Your inactivity is NOT about how many times you login and logout, but rather about your coursework activities. This is a security policy to ensure the online security of our courses. Of course hackers login and logout often, but they never help to do your coursework.
3. Reward for Moving Ahead: You will be rewarded for moving ahead of your average trajectory. Every section there is an average completion rate. Your course idling policy will begin to count down, if your completion rate is below average. The clock will be stopped once you are 10% above the average, but the clock will start again once you are below 10%. You will NOT be able to move over your mid-term presentation until a certain day for most of my courses except BPA course.
4. Penalties: When you submit your assignment late, this is a bad sign that you didn’t dutifully do your weekly study. It is treated as an absence for your physical class. Two absences or two lateness, the third one you will fail the course. Any late submission is graded as ZERO, but it is worse than that. Miss submission of your final will devastated your grade. Do NOT take “penalty” lightly. It will hurt your grade. Arguing your penalty won’t help your case.
5. Answer Your Email: Very often, I send an email to question your assignment, but receive no reply. I wrote another one, and another one. 3 Days or a week later I received a reply. This behavior is treated as disrespectful. You are taking an online course. Please answer your email, and read your email. Or don’t bother to take any online course. Check your email at least once or twice a day. Some of you never answer your email, but once answered you got into the habit of back and forth emails. Do NOT go into back and forth emails with your professor. Your back and forth emails won’t help you to win your appeal. Sometimes a warning email comes with 10 points to 5 points deduction penalties, but it typically comes after the first warning email or even the second warning email.
6. Read Your Assignment Submission Guideline: Don’t be creative about your assignment name. Use what I give to you, so I understand what is what and which is which.
7. Ask question When You Have A Problem: My channels are all open. You can Zoom, call or chat with me anytime and any place. Please take the advantage. This is 21st century, not 19th century world. You are in a professional school, not in kindergarten. You people are professional, not kids anymore. I treat you with my outmost respect, expect the same from you.
I hope the above points can help you to achieve a desired grade. My suggestion to you, is to start your assignment early, and submit your assignment before the deadline. There is no penalty for finishing your course early, but there is a severe penalty if you finish it late.
